Basic copper sulphate is the main component of the pesticide Bordeaux mixture. With the development of chemical products in the direction of refinement, copper hydroxide and basic copper salt bactericides with better quality than copper sulphate lime milk have been put on the market. The biological effectiveness of such pesticides depends on the level of particulates less than 5 microns. As a contact action of the bactericide, this part of fine particles can increase the contact area between the agent and the bacteria.

The particle size has a direct influence on the suspension rate. When the density and viscosity of the medium are constant, the particle size is proportional to the sedimentation speed of the particles. The smaller the particle size, the slower the sedimentation rate of the particles and the higher the suspension rate. Suspension performance is related to the uniformity of drug distribution after spraying and the stability of the suspending agent, and is closely related to the sterilization effect. This affects the quality and cost of the formulation. Therefore, people are working on a method for preparing basic copper sulphate ultrafine particles.

Alkaline solution is uniformly precipitated to prepare basic copper sulphate. The pH of the particles is between 7.0 and 8.5. This range is beneficial to the formation of ultrafine spherical particles, which makes the copper slightly excessive and ends the evaporation of ammonia near pH 7.5-8.0. The particles are finer and more dispersed, and the primary particles are more and the degree of agglomeration is smaller. Within this range, the potential value of the particles is large, and the particles are highly dispersed due to electrostatic repulsion.

By using ammonia-ammonium uniform precipitation method, adding appropriate additives, and mastering the reaction conditions, nano basic basic copper sulphate can be prepared and configured as a suspension, which is more dispersed than the micron-sized suspension. Preliminary tests have shown that the nano basic copper sulphate particles have a good bactericidal effect because of their larger specific surface area and extremely high specific surface area.
